Julia van der Laan de Vries

Senior Landscape Architect + Urban Designer, OALA, CSLA

Julia is a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer with over 28 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors throughout south-western Ontario.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Art and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Guelph. Certifications include Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Fundamentals of OCAP®, First Nations Governance Information Centre. Professional experience includes working for Niagara Region (4 years), City of Hamilton (5 years), City of Missisauga (2 years), Town of Oakville (4 years), and Town of Milton (4 years).  She successfully led the urban design & architecture awards programs for Niagara Region and the City of Hamilton. Julia has extensive experience planning and facilitating engagement strategies for multi-sectoral projects, including for public, stakeholder, and special interest groups. 

 

Julia has won three urban design awards for her projects in Hamilton and Niagara. She previously sat on the Town of Aurora’s design review panel.  She is a visual artist and loves design in all its forms.  Julia values projects where the natural environment plays an important role - believing in the restorative power of nature.  Julia particularly enjoys working on projects that enhance the quality of communities.
