Hiawatha First Nation Shoreline Restoration, ON
SpruceLab led landscape design for an extensive shoreline restoration project for Hiawatha First Nation. Project management of the contract was led by 4 Directions of Conservation Consulting Services, with support from SpruceLab. Work included collaboration with a local arborist, and landscape architects with shoreline ecology expertise. Planting of over 3,500 native trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses to help mitigate water quality issues due to erosion and geese. The project included meaningful community engagement and workshop led by SpruceLab, including follow-up visits to property owners directly involved to refine planting plans and ensure localized needs are being met. SpruceLab also created a user-friendly plant care guide to support shoreline stewardship in the area, with recommendations for new plantings and other helpful gardening related information.
