The Kitchener Indoor Recreation Complex is a net-zero carbon facility designed and now being constructed by an Integrated Project Delivery team, led by Multiplex, and Unity Design Studio. Thought to be the largest capital project in the history of the city, SpruceLab is proud to be the the landscape architects, and to support First Nations engagement as needed. The project is located at RBJ Schlegel Park, a district park located in the south-west area of the city, a growing and multicultural area (close to Kitchener Public Library’s Southwest Library, also our project). The project was developed following extensive stakeholder and public engagement from 2019-2022, which informed the business case and budget approvals. A groundbreaking event was held May 31, 2024, and the project is expected to open in the summer of 2026.
