Toronto Street Tree Planting Standards

The ‘Toronto Street Tree Planting Solutions for Planting in Hard Boulevard Solutions’ was initiated with a consultant team led by DTAH, in 2011. The resulting document proposed a broad and in-depth set of new construction standards and specifications for tree planting to help the City of Toronto meet the performance requirements of the Toronto Green Standard. The proposed standards were under review by an interdivisional working group, and are now being integrated into the Toronto Green Streets work.

While with DTAH, Sheila was a member of the consultant team, supporting workshop planning and facilitation with city staff, and was a key member of the internal city team after joining City Planning in 2011. To support the implementation of the new standards, she initiated a triple-bottom-line benefit-cost-analysis on the new proposed standards with environmental planners (led by Jane Welsh), to investigate the additional benefits provided with enhanced stormwater capture designs (work led by Stratus Consulting.)
